Dandavats while the online discussion is really good , at some point I personally think we need a face to face presentation/discussion . And most importantly , if at all humanly possible ,let the devotees inspect the various properties being proposed .Get a feel for them and see how big the area for programs actually is .Meet the neighbours and find out if they like devotees and Kirtan or hate devotees . We made that mistake here , although after years of suffering abusive neighbours one died a terrible premature death and the partner is selling But neighbours make a huge difference , especially in town if the zoning is not for religious gatherings .

Radhe Radhe [ at least I can comment , but I cant seem to work out how to make post of my own ]

Dandavat pranams ,
yesterday a devotee who is friends with a committee member said all of down stairs of Tudor House is tied up in a lease for 6 years , Anuradha will take one flat upstairs . Because its not zoned for "a Place of worship" we cant advertise programs in the other flat or have many people or make loud Kirtan . So the other flat may also be rented to pay off the mortgage quicker . What does everyone one think of that ? Maybe we are used to no temple so in that way the whole place is payed of in 4 years from rent . Maybe its OK, but at least lets find out and discuss it .

This forum is very difficuly to use . I cant make posts or see some posts and I cant even find the proposal for the Tudor House att all , is it on here? Radhe Radhe !!

Do you know when it's due? Can we still vote at the next meeting if we haven't paid?

Is the Wednesday meeting still on? After the previous meeting was cancelled these things are not so clear to me.

Thank you

Dear brothers and sisters,

We as a community are reevaluating ourselves and what we can achieve to please our dearly beloved Srila Gurudeva. With the recent news of the DA being rejected by Tweed Shire Council, we are considering selling that block and investing the money into the building just across the road, Tudor House, a block of two flats and three shops, and a very generous donation has been offered to this end. There are many advantages to this proposal, and financially it works. However, the only space available for the next six years will be one of the flats, but after that time, the three shops downstairs will be available to be developed commercially, but not as any official temple. This has great potential as a cafe or restaurant, shop, seminar space, office, a children's area can be included, and a healing room could also be incorporated. This is my understanding of the situation.

However, before we make any big decision it is important that all options are considered and everyone is involved in that. Should we consider another DA that is easier for the Council to digest, with less public space (the public space determines the car parks required), and a car parking space underneath the main building? Do we have the financial and energy resources to try for a more ambitious project, such as renovating the Steiner school? Would we prefer to have a project that is out of town but close to town? Could we combine with the already existing project in Byangum, or could we even pool resources with some willing families and buy the property next door to the Garden Ashram?

A lot of the answer depends on everyone's aspirations, desire to serve our Gurudeva and how much everyone feels inspired to give of themselves, their money, their time and their expertise. Everyone has different gifts to offer to a project but unless we really know how enthusiastic people would be about actually contributing their energies, it is hard to know how ambitious we can be. My personal seva aspiration is to be able to help in the coordination of seva, and in engaging the children and young people in devotional service, as well as getting my hands dirty in a garden for the Lord, and doing some other general stuff like cooking, book distribution, fundraising, regular donation etc. I like all the ideas presented so far, forgive me if I didn't include yours in my brief overview, but really we need to know how much everyone is willing to join in. My feeling is that if we make a collective decision, then a collective effort can be made to please Gurudeva.

If anyone joins this forum who has not been receiving the emails leading up to this forum being created, please let me know and I can forward all the emails to you that have been sent.

Jaya Gurudeva!

your little sister,
