Burleigh Harinam Sankirtan, Sunday 1st August, 2010

[UPDATE: 2nd August] We had a wonderful kirtan at Burleigh beach on the grass yesterday, despite the fact I didn’t get to email anyone.

With a handful of enthusiastic devotees, I lead the chanting for five ecstatic hours, stopping only to take some prasadam.

The weather was perfect, and the smiling faces and scenic view supported our mood of praising Radha and Krishna.

We sang bhajans and kirtans accompanied by harmonium, mridanga, jembe, kartalas, esaraj, sitar and even a snake-charmer, on a big Persian rug. About 75 books were distributed, while many passing onlookers heard the sweet nectar of the holy names.

Some of the devotees’ kids took part in the fabulous fire-twirling, acro-balance and tricking that manifests there every Sunday night. Both the performers and the captive audience find themselves moving to the beat of the electric night kirtan and instrumentals.

Harinama Sankirtana Ki Jai! Srila Gurudeva Ki Jai!
